![]() So even though you’d technically be able to run a more modern OS, you might not be able to take advantage of some of the features. ![]() Even though you can upgrade it to the point where it SHOULD be able to run Big Sur, there are a lot of new hardware modules on the M1 laptops that weren’t around 10 years ago, like proximity sensors, WiFi 6 support (faster, less susceptible to interference), newer Bluetooth standards, better processors (did I mention M1?), and better hardware security features like WPA3 encryption over WiFi, faster boot drive encryption, and other things that require a beefier processor which are nice to have in a modern era. ![]() ![]() I’m torn, but a lot of people are saying that you can/should so here’s my argument for why you should put the money towards a replacement instead:īetween the upgrades you’d have to do, you’re probably looking at $270, and at that point you’re well on your way to getting a new M1 Mac.
